Carmen "Butch" John Lagarelli, 84, of Elkton, MD passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Born in Wilmington, DE on December 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Carmen "Argo" and Ellen Maguigan Lagarelli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe, Jim, and Gertrude.
Carmen grew up in Brown Town, attended St. Elizabeth's Catholic School, was president of his graduating class at Wilmington High School, and attended the University of Delaware. His strength of character and charismatic personality earned him the nickname of "Italian Stallion". Carmen was a retired mechanical engineer who spent the latter part of his career with Sunroc in Dover, DE. Prior to that, he dedicated more than 35 years to the Speakman Company, where he earned respect not only for his engineering expertise but also for his creativity and innovation, securing 13 patents during his time there. His strong work ethic was evident in everything he did, including running his own successful masonry business while working full-time. Carmen was known for his vast knowledge of the trades and skilled craftsmanship renovating several homes alongside his wife, Mary. Family was at the heart of Carmen's life. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren, whose presence brought him endless joy. A true outdoorsman, Carmen loved the peace and adventure of duck and deer hunting, as well as relaxing days spent fishing. He will be remembered with love and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Mary Abels Lagarelli; children, Kimberly Shoemaker (Mike), Karen Voss (Larry), Kristin McKeown (Dan), Katrina Staats, Kandace Hanby (Kenny), Lisa Weyhmiller (Joe), and Kylie Jerman; grandchildren, Sierra, Savannah, Joey, Kelly, Kristen, Larry, Lauren, Kris, Kyle, Luna, Keri, Kolby, Kenzi, Kourtney, and Kasey; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isla, Alina, Owen, Kinsley, Lyla, Maren, Kolton, Kennedi, Karson, Kayden, Kaleb, Kendall, and Parker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Friday, April 25, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation from 9:30–10:45 AM in the Church Chapel. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cecil County Animal Services Foundation at 3280 Augustine Herman Highway, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
