Obituary

Betty Ann Deibert, 94, of North East, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born in Childs, MD on January 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Ethel Cameron Spence.

Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a 1949 graduate of Elkton High School, Elkton, MD, and married her high school sweetheart Frank, in 1953. Betty was unassuming yet refined, strong-willed, and fiercely independent. She was always unmistakably herself. She didn't mince words and had a reputation for being outspoken. She never met a stranger she didn't like. While she was happiest in her favorite rocking chair, on the porch of her beloved home on Plum Shore Road, she also loved a road trip. and when she said, "let's Go"! she meant it. Over the years, there were countless trips to the beach, a Chicago, IL adventure to see the Oprah Winfrey Show and shop the Magnificent Mile, a whirlwind trip to NYC to see Regis and Kathie lee, a cross-country trip to Arizona with a side jaunt to Las Vegas. She also flew to Scotland and Barcelona, Spain. In the past, Betty could also be found riding her signature blue bicycle on Route 272 in North East and tooling around in her P.T. Cruiser. She found great joy in cooking for family and friends and if you were lucky, she would bake you her famous peach pie. She was known as a true "foodie" by her family and friends. She loved dining out in restaurants near and far. Throughout her life, Betty worked as a secretary for various businesses. Her favorite job was as administrative assistant, for the Cecil County Public Library and while there, she was one of the drivers for the Bookmobile. She retired from the Elkton Post Office, where she spent many years serving the community.

Survivors include her loving husband of 73 years; Frank H. Deibert, daughter; Tracy A. Doyle, son-in-law; Drew Doyle, cherished grandson; Ryan D. Doyle (Savannah), and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Betty deeply.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings; James H. Spence Jr., William H. Spence, Richard W. Spence Sr., Alwilda Malin, Dorothy Jackson, Marjorie Bocora, Jean Mahoney, Florence Raimato and infant sister, Marie Spence.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or Amedisys Hospice, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.

In keeping with Betty's wishes, no services will be held. We will miss her every day, but her love and the memories we share will stay with us always. She truly was one of a kind.
