Margaret "Betty" Elizabeth Steele Brown, days away from her 101 st birthday, passed away, Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
Born on May 6, 1922, in Elkton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clement L. and Sophie M. Steele. Betty was a graduate of Elkton High School and Goldey Beacom. She worked for Triumph Industries, E. I. du Pont Nemours and Co., Inc., and as a teacher's aide at Gilpin Manor Elementary School. She was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School Classes. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club, Elkton, and the Rebecca Circle of the Methodist Church. In her late seventies and early eighties, she was a volunteer at the gift shop at Union Hospital of Cecil County. She enjoyed most of all, time with her family, genealogy, needlepoint, reading, and word puzzles on her iPad. In her younger years she loved to dance.
Survivors include her daughters, Janeen Brown Ruff (Tom), Newark, DE, Marylee Lesko (Jim), New Canaan, CT, and Christie B. Feehery (Jim), Bethany Beach, DE. Grandchildren, Courtney Holland, Josh Lesko (Jessica), Morgan Feehery, and Ryan Feehery; great-grandchildren, Berkeley, Michael, Bayard, J.J., and Dalton; nephew, Dwight Steele (Linda); and nieces, Kim Sentman and Kandice Schroeder.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Clement H. Brown; and siblings, Nancy Lee Steele Herman, and Clement Clayton Steele.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM, Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD. Graveside service and interment in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, or to American Heart Association, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
