Bernard “Bernie” Joseph David, 77, of New Castle, DE passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Born in Upper Darby, PA on May 23, 1949, he was the son of the late Burnley and Madeleine Walmsley David.

Mr. David was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy before beginning a career as a marine machinist at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He took great pride in his work and in the years, he devoted himself to serving both his nation and his community. A devoted member of the Folcroft Fire Company, Bernard was a life member who served as Fire Chief. He could often be found with a glass of scotch in hand, listening to oldies while meticulously washing his truck. Mr. David was a devoted sports fan, he rarely missed an opportunity to watch football, baseball, Little League, or girls’ softball games. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, his community, and the many friends whose lives he enriched.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years; Christine David, children; Tracy David, and Brian J. David (Rachel), grandchildren; Zachary David, Brian David, Morgan David, Kelsey David (Jake), and Quinn David, and siblings; Madeleine David Hollenbach (Robert), Joan David, and Stephen David (Margie), sister-in-law; Robin Webster DeAngelis and brother-in-law; Louis DeAngelis.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother; John David.

Funeral service with military honors will be held 12PM, Monday, August 3, 2026, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 11 AM. Interment will be private in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
