Obituary

Barbara Ellen Alexander born August 3rd, 1922, in Raleigh County, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2026, at the age of 103 surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Alexander previously worked at Grants and Rhodes Pharmacy in Newark, Delaware.  She enjoyed time spent with family, watching the birds, visiting the casino and in later years, on her iPad scrolling Facebook and Instagram.

In addition to her parents, John W. and Lessie Cantley Rorrer, Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Gail Taylor, husbands John Quincy Taylor and Thomas Alexander as well as sisters, Edna Kyle, Mary Holland, Merle Burnside, Elizabeth Flynn, Melba Rorrer, Blanche Rorrer and brother Quince Rorrer.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Greg Snyder and his wife Jennifer (Bear), Melinda Mauthe and her husband Ron (Newark), great grandchildren, Zachary Taylor and his fiancée Emily Glover of Bridgeville, Dianna Mauthe (Bear), Kristin Herrera (New York), Tatiana Gutierrez and her husband Jorge (Tampa), Adam Snyder (Elkton) and Austin Snyder (Brittney) of Chesapeake City as well as great, great grandchildren, Carter Snyder (Newark) Grayson and Easton Gutierrez (Tampa) and Paisley and Cooper Snyder (Chesapeake City).

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice for their guidance and compassion through this journey and the amazing caregivers, Nancy Miller, Frances Smith, Karen Carletti, Kara Grubb, Jennifer Garrett and Debbie Truitt, who became, and will always remain, family to us.  Thank you as well to the wonderful neighbors who always kept a watchful eye on our grandparents, Jim and Stacy Gates, Brenda and Dewey Miller and Bruce and Lynn Turner.

Services will be private at the request of the family.
