Audrey Way Johnson McDonough, 91, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Born in Elkton, MD on August 9, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Way Johnson and Hazel Rothwell Johnson.
Audrey retired from Chesapeake City Elementary School as lead secretary in 2004 with 30 years of service. She had previously worked for Elkton Banking and Trust Company. Audrey maintained homes in several states during her husband's naval career. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and traveling. Most of all, Audrey loved spending time with her beloved family and many friends.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, A. Joseph McDonough; her daughters, Leah Parson of Elkton, MD, Kathryn Hutton (Albie) of Milford, DE, and Margaret McClay (Kit) of Earleville, MD; grandchildren, Guinnevere McDonough, MariClare Pochvatilla (Jack), Patrick Hutton (Sarah), Marlene Rafferty (Ryan), Bridget Hayman (James), Stephen McClay (Heather), and Katelyn Simpson (Sam); 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Marlene McMahon of Berlin, MD; and her 5 nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Patrick McDonough; grandson, Anthony Klimasewski; son-in-law, Bill Parson; and brother-in-law, William McMahon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 10:15 AM in the Church Chapel. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chesapeake City Elementary School Library, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A. at 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
