Dr. Allen P. Dickerson, 89, of Elkton, MD passed away Friday, January 1, 2016. Born in Elkton on June 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Allen Dickerson, who died when Dr. Dickerson was a child, and the late Claire McCall Dickerson Jensen. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Henry Jensen, who raised him.
A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, Dr. Dickerson had pastored at Jones Chapel before founding Maranatha Baptist Church where he ministered for 58 years. He was also the founder of Maranatha Baptist Church Academy, Maryland Baptist Bible College, radio station WOEL and started Antioch New Testament Baptist Missions. He enjoyed reading his Bible, visiting and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruby Greenway Dickerson; son, Allen P. Dickerson, Jr.; grandchildren, Carol Jean Becker and husband, Jesse, and James Dickerson and great grandchildren, Cara, Jaydon and Jackson.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, Dr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Connie Dickerson, and sisters, Janet Poore and Jane Smith.
Visitation will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church, 3141 Old Elk Neck Road, Elkton, on Tuesday evening, January 5 from 5pm until 8 pm and again on Wednesday morning at 10am. The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 6 at the Church with interment with military honors in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park.
