It is with broken hearts we announce our beautiful Matriarch Adaline Marie (Woods) VanGilder,83 has left us too soon on March 28,2026. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Adaline was born on August 23,1942 in Fairmont, W Va to the late Matthew D. Woods and Mary K. (Glover)Woods.
In addition to her parents Adaline was preceded in death by her best friend and sister Janet Darway and her half-sister Alta Mae (Jo) Flynn. Her son-in-law Billy Joe Bower Jr, who she was extremely close to. Adaline has lost many beloved nieces and nephews as well.
Adaline was a devoted stay at home Mom and Grandmother. She loved caring for her children, grandchildren, neighbors and her home. She loved her radio which was always on, set on Country Music Stations. Adaline loved having her family and friends around her. She loved sitting on her front porch with her coffee, admiring her beautiful flower beds and watching for hummingbirds to visit her Butterfly bushes.
Adaline is survived by her husband of 63 years, William H. VanGilder. Her brother, Omer Woods (Lucy). Her children William (Buster) Van Gilder (Lisa), Cathy (Cissy) Bradford (Earl), Dawn Duncan, and Shelia Burcham (Herbie). She adored her 9 Grand Children and 10 Great Grand Children.  She also loved many special nieces, nephews and friends.
In respect of Adaline's wishes there will be a private graveside service for family and close friends, at Cherry Hill Cemetery, Elkton MD.
In lieu of flowers Adaline requested donations be given to St Judes Children's Hospital in her honor.
